With Ties to The Granite State
Elizabeth Gurley Flynn (1890-1964)
Flynn was born in Concord, NH to the family of Irish immigrants. She became an influential organizer for the IWW and travelled the country in an effort to promote the labor question. She fought for better working conditions, an 8-hour work day, and dignity for workers.
Christa McAuliffe (1948-1986)
McAuliffe was a beloved educator, astronaut, and an active union member from Concord, New Hampshire. She inspired so many through her career, and her legacy lives on.
Sarah Bagley (1806-1889)
Bagley was from Candia, NH and became a prominent labor leader and organizer in New England. She fought for 10-hour work days and safer working conditions for the young women laboring in New England mills.
